A high tech sergical prosedure was performed at the UC San Diego Medical Center. The purpose of the preseduer was to remove an appendix through a vegian. It took about 50 mintues and then the patient reported a minor pain and discomfort.
The prosedure is called Natural Orifice Translumenal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTES), which involve passing surgical instruments through a natural orifice such as a mouth or vagina to romove diseasesd organs such as appendix or gallbladder. There is only a very small incision is made through the belly button for the purpose of inserting a two millimeter camera into the abdominal cavity so the surgeons can safely access the surgical site.
