Robotic Arm Called NeuroArm Performs A Brain Surgery

As you probably know, robots cannot function without humans. But do you think robots will one day substitute human being to perform complex tasks? Do you think they will invade our daily life one day? We have seen many movies where robots were used as a useful tool to facilitate people’s lives; we used to say that’s not going to happen, it’s only a movie. But recently we start seeing many applications where robots and robotics arms were used to perform tasks to help us, such as car manufactures, foods and drinks, and medical equipments.
A new robotic arms “hands” called NeuroArm, was used to romove a brain tumor. The robotic surgon more-steady and can move in much smaller increasment than human’s arm. Human arm hand can move in increasment of one or two millimeters. But NeuroArm can move in increasment of fifty microns.
As I metioned before, we cantrol these kind of robots, and NeuroArm is also fully controlled by a surgon using remote controls and imaging screen that give a great details for better work.
NeuroArm was developed by Garnette Sutherland, Professor of Neurosurgery, University of Calgary and Calgary Health Region, with a great group of scientist consists of Robot Engineer and Technician, Simulation Engineer and MRI specialist.
According to NeuroArm website ” NeuroArm is a MRI-compatible image-guided computer-assisted device specifically designed for neurosurgery. It performs both microsurgery and biopsy-stereotaxy applications. The system includes a workstation, a system control cabinet, and two remote manipulators mounted on a mobile base. For biopsy-stereotaxy, either the left or right arm is transferred to an extension board that attaches to the OR table and the procedure is able to be performed inside the MRI bore.”
