Eating Breakfast Regularly Helps You Lose Weight – Study
A new study suggested eating breakfast helps you lose weight; most people try to skip some meals in order to lose few pounds. But according to Dr. Daniela Jakubowicz, a clinical professor of medicine at the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond; “they are wrong”. He said.
I don’t think that this is the first time that you read or hear about the benefits of breakfast for losing weight, they said eating breakfast contains good amount of protein and carbohydrates helps people to cut sweets and starchy foods and also boost the metabolism. For you to lose weight you have to eat breakfast regularly with variety of fruits and vegetables, and people should not expect to lose weight fast, it takes some times. The good thing about it, its natural way to lose weight without any supplements or starving yourself.
The study:
Ninety-four inactive and obese women were assigned to two different diets, the diets consists of low fat food and total calories, but differed in how carbohydrates and calories were given.
Forty-six of these people were assigned to a very low carb diet; they allowed them to eat 1,085 calories every day only. The diet wad divided as follows:
- 17 grams for carbohydrates.
- 51 grams of protein.
- 78 grams of fat.
Breakfast was the smallest meal of the day at 290 calories a day as follows:
- 7 grams of carbohydrates, such as bread, fruit, milk.
- 12 grams of protein, such as eggs and meat.
The other forty-eight women in the study were assigned on a modified low-carb diet or big-breakfast diet, which allowed them to eat 1,240 calories a day. And the breakfast it self was 610 calories.
Astonishing Results:
- After four months, low-carb dieters lost an average of around 5 pounds more than the women assigned to a big-breakfast diet. But the results have changed after eight months.
- The low-carb dieters putt an average of 18 of those pounds back on, while the big breakfasters continued to lose weight, on average 16.5 pounds each.
Low-carb diets “exacerbates the craving for carbohydrates and slow metabolism – as a result, after a short period of weight loss, there is a quick return to obesity,” Dr. Jakubowicz said, as quoted by BBC News. Researchers also said that your body seems to produce more hormones like adrenaline and cortisol in the mornings which are ready to convert protein to energy.
