It seems to me that Global Warming is raising the planet’s atmosphere temperature faster than we are expecting. A new report by the National Snow and Ice Data Center, indicating that all the ice in the North Pole will be melted this summer - 2008. “North Pole Could be Ice-Free This Summer“. Global Warming is going to transform out planet by 2050 because the temperature will increase dramatically. Arctic sea ice could break apart completely allowing ships to sail over the normally frozen top of the world. “Symbolically it is hugely important,” said Mark Serreze of the U.S. National Snow and Ice Data Center in Colorado. “There is supposed to be ice at the North Pole, not open water.”
North Pole without Ice? Scary news right? According to the Independent newspaper “the first time in human history the pole would be ice-free — is a stark sign of global warming”. As far as we know, North Pole has no land, and all what most people imagine is a giant block of ice and Polar bears. Scientists have been closely watching the North Pole melting summer after summer, but in the recent summers they noticed the amount of ice has gotten thinner and thinner.
“The issue is that, for the first time that I am aware of, the North Pole is covered with extensive first-year ice,” Serreze is quoted by The Independent. “I’d say it’s even-odds whether the North Pole melts out.”
Late summer, around the peak of the melt, in September, air temperatures over land in the western Arctic from August to October were more than 4 degrees Fahrenheit (2 degrees Celsius) above the 1978-2006 average.
“The rapid loss of sea ice can trigger widespread changes that would be felt across the region,” said Andrew Slater, also of the National Snow and Ice Data Center.
There are so many organizations out there trying to stop global warming by providing solutions and alternative energy sources. “We have the technology and ingenuity to reduce the threat of global warming today … Using energy more efficiently and moving to renewable energy (wind, solar, geothermal, and bioenergy) would significantly reduce our emissions of heat-trapping gases” Union of Concerned Scientists.

I do not understand why people make such a big deal out of this story. … Does no one remember the Skate in 1959?
Skate (SSN-578), surfaced at the North Pole, 17 March 1959.
Here is a picture.

There was not much ice there in 1959.
