Human Waste into Usable Fuel

EnerTech Environmental Inc. based in Atlanta invented a new way to convert human-waste into usable fuel “ethanol” as an alternative source of energy. This will reduce the constance increase of energy cost. They said.

By the end of this year 2008, its 160 million plants east of Los Angeles will be ready to convert hundreds of tons of sewage sludge from local sanitation districts into a pellet-like substance dubbed “e-fuel.

How does it work?

  1. Sludge is delivered by tanker trucks from local sewage treatment plants.
  2. The sludge is pressurized, heated and forced through a reactor.
  3. Inside the reactor, the the sludge goes through a chemical reaction. Carbon dioxide is stripped out, and the sludge turns into a mushy “slurry” of carbonized biosolids.
  4. Excess water is removed from the slurry by a centrifuge. Water is sent back to wastewater treatment plants.
  5. The remaining product is sent through a dryer and turned into pellet-like “e-fuel.”

Interesting. Doo Doo Motors is doing this with automobiles.

  2. Interesting…. but how much energy is required to gather, transport, pressurize etc. before there is a finished product. And how much energy can that finished product deliver….?
