A new way of drawing using robots was invited by LASA ” Learning Algorithms and System Laboratory“, based in France. According to the research team, the robot is powered by a very entertaining program and based on existing tools for face detection and image reconstructions, as well as classical tools for trajectory planning of a 4 DOFs robot arm.
This human-like robot’s drawing and motion follows the style of human characteristics. The whole process is interactive, using speech recognition and speech synthesis to conduct the scenario.
The robot has a video camera embedded in his face that can detect the presence of a user and then takes a snapshot of his face while the robot turns its head toward the user. Then the robot asks the user using speech synthesis and speech recognition to hand him the quill pen, the robot start his the drawing process. Finally, the robot draws a frame around the portrait, signs its drawing, turns its head to the user, and signals verbally that the portrait is finished. - LASA
