A deal between Microsoft Corp and Netflix will allow people who have Xbox 360 video game console to stream thousands of movies over the Internet.
Beginning fall of 2008, Netflix subscribers will be able to stream over 10,000 movies and TV shows to Xbox consoles for viewing on television sets.
“This generation of consoles will change the face of home entertainment more than any other generation before,” said John Schappert, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s interactive entertainment division.
Microsoft has sold over Xbox 360 consoles in the United States only, and in order to use the service you need to pay 50$ a year for what they call it “gold membership”, which will be required for access to Netflix’s “Watch Instantly” library. In additions, a subscription to Netflix is also required, and users have to pay $9 per month for the least expensive plan that includes unlimited streaming.
