Cloned Cats That Glow
By on July 20th, 2008 |177 viewsScientists in South Korea were able to clone cats the glow in the dark, after making some changes in their gene.
A research team at Gyeongsang National University produced 4 kitties clones in January and February and now they are around 7 pounds with good health condition. Two of them died during the cesarean section. They glow a dull red under ultraviolet light. They said.
Cloning Process:
The team took skin cells of the mother cat, and then they modified its genes to make them fluorescent by using a virus, which was transplanted into the ova. After that, the ova were implanted into the womb of the donor cat.
“This technology can be applied to clone animals suffering from the same diseases as humans,” the leading scientist, Kong said.
“It will also help develop stem cell treatments,” he said, noting that cats have 250 kinds of genetic diseases that affect humans as well.
Scientists believe that this process might be useful to find cure and treatment for human genetic diseases and could help reproduce rare animals.
