With the constant increase in oil price and the North Pole melting form global warming, scientists and researchers are working extremely hard to discover alternative and clean sources of energy to power our world. Bacteria, solar power, fossil fuel and Garbage are promising sources of future fuel and energy. Now, geothermal power (from the Greek words geo, meaning earth, and thermal, meaning heat) is another alternative energy source. Oregon Institute of Technology is planning on building a 7.6$ million geothermal power plant on campus, the plant will become the main source of power for the school in few years; and making the school the first university to be powered completely by geothermal energy.
The first geothermal generator was tested on July 4th 1904 by Prince Piero Ginori Conti at the Larderello dry steam filed in Italy, and the largest group of geothermal power plants in the world is located in the Geyser in California. Until now, geothermal power supplies less than 1% of the world’s energy.
