Keiji Fukuda, the assistant director-general of the World Health Organization, called the outbreak “serious” on Sunday. Researchers are still trying to determine how easily the virus is transmitted person to person and it’s too early to predict whether there will be a mild or serious pandemic, said Fukuda. CNN

These are important ways that protect you from the Swine Flu. This information was provided by the CDC.org site. You can visit their site for more information and printable material regarding the flu.

1. Avoid close contact.

Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.

2. Stay home when you are sick.

If possible, stay home from work, school, and errands when you are sick. You will help prevent others from catching your illness.

3. Cover your mouth and nose.

Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. It may prevent those around you from getting sick.

4. Clean your hands.

Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs.

5. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.

Germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth.

6. Practice other good health habits.

Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.

Public officials in the United States and Mexico are taking serious steps to stop the rapidly spreading of the newly identified flu virus “Swine Flue” that killed 68 people in Mexico.

“This is an animal strain of the H1N1 virus and it has pandemic potential because it is infecting people,” Dr. Margaret Chan said.

Swine Influenza (swine flu) is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza that regularly cause outbreaks of influenza among pigs. Swine flu viruses do not normally infect humans, however, human infections with swine flu do occur, and cases of human-to-human spread of swine flu viruses has been documented. See General Information about Swine Flu.

So far, eight people were confirmed to have swine flu in the United States. Six in Californian and two in Texas, according to the U.S Centers of Disease Control and Prevention.

Mexico City has closed all of its schools and universities until further notice because of the virus, and on Saturday, the country’s National Health Council said all soccer games would be played Saturday without public audiences.

Experts think coughing, sneezing and contaminated surfaces spread the infection among people. Health officials are advising people to stay away from direct contact with Pigs; however, there is no danger of contracting the virus from eating pork products, according to Dr. Anne Schuchat, the CDC’s interim deputy director for science and public health program.
