Betavoltaic power cells could power future laptops for 30 years without recharge

Betavoltaic Batteries could provide power for your next laptop for over 30 years. These batteries last that long and you don’t even have to re-charge them. The project was funded by the U.S air Force Research Laboratory. This breakthrough betavoltaic power cells are mainly constructed from semiconductors and use radioisotopes as the energy source.

This is a different type of alternative source of energy like solar power; because the radioactive material decays it emits beta particles that transform into eclectic power that has the capability to provide an electric device such as laptops for years and years.
Developers are working now on using the same method to produce betavoltaic batteries that has larger capacity to power larger appliances.

You may have learned from your physics or chemistry classes about Alfa and Beta decays that produce nuclear energy. But don’t worry; this is a different application because the batteries do not produce any radioactive or hazardous waste.

Scientists are expecting for these batteries to in the market within 2 or 3 years if every thing goes well.
