Robot suit to help elderly farmers

Scientists in Japan have invented a robot suit designed to help farmers planting and tilling the soil.

The suit you see in the picture is weighing about 55LB and has eight motors and 16 sensors. But do you think farmers really would feel comfortable wearing that suit? Its heavy right? According the inventors at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology  “the suit carries its own weight and places a minimum load on the operator”.

This suit according to the inventor is very suitable for elderly farmers who need support for their leg muscles and joints.

The production company is going to sell this robot suit between 3,500-7,000£, and they are going to release to the market within three years.

‘Human robotic technology is being applied to various industries but it has great potential in the agricultural industry, in which people have to bear a heavy burden,’ Professor Shigeki Toyama said.

‘That’s especially obvious in Japan, where the industry is rapidly ageing and its population is shrinking,’ he said.

Just to mention that Japan has also inveted robots that help humans in their jobs such as office receptionists, waiters and security guards. Amazing ha?
