Samsung has today launched a slimmer edition of the Galaxy S3 Smartphone in a renewed effort to counter the onslaught Apple’s iPhone in the market. Galaxy S3 Mini comes with improved characteristics such as 4-inch screen and an updated Google’s Android OS. This edition is smaller than the pioneer Galaxy S3 which has a larger screen of 4.8-inches.

iPhone 5 comes with a 4-inch screen and is a bit bigger than the previous Apple’s releases but there are still huge difference between the two devices. iPhone 5 has a better resolution with 326 pixels per inch compared to Galaxy Mini which as has 233 pixels per inch. This new device is bound to take the rivalry between Samsung, Apple and other outfits selling Android phones to a higher level. The two companies lead in the mobile market with Apple producing a phone annually while Samsung is concentrating with both the high end and the usual phones market.

There has been an upsurge in consumer’s interest on big screens smartphones but pundits insist the market for smaller phones is still there. Apple users have particularly been slow in taking the larger screens. With the smaller screens phones only making a subtle entry into the market, Apple has continued to dominate the scenes. According to analysts, Apple is serving millions of customers with a taste for small screens while still wishing to enjoy the thrills that come with powerful processors or cameras.

Although the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini is inferior to its predecessor Galaxy S3, it is meant for customers with a sense for practicality. However, the major disadvantages that might prevent this phone from making inroads in the US is the lack of the 4G LTE platform, its duo core chip and the low power camera. It is however expected to perform well in emerging markets which have seen success in smart phone. It will also do well when competing against previous iPhone devices in the market. Generally, Galaxy S3 Mini will only offer stiff competition against established mid-tier phones such as iPhone 4S and 4 but not against the latest devices such as iPhone 5.
