There are many drugs in the market that helps you stop smoking, but unfortunately 80% of these people come back to smoking within one year. Scientists from Sweden’s Karolinska Institute hope a new vaccine will solve just that problem. The new vaccine job is to block nicotine molecule form reaching the brain; which makes smokers not getting the kick from the cigarette. And if the drugs succeed to take away that kick, then there is no point in smoking.
Testing started on over 400 ex-smokers in April; ex-smoker would receive the vaccine injection every month for around four months. Then they will be followed over the next year to see how they get on.
Over 4.5 million people die every year from smoking, the race on creating the first vaccine to make smokers stop smoking is still going on. The new vaccine might reach the market in the next 3 or 4 years and hope it succeed because a new statistics showed that by 2020, smoking will kill more persons than AIDS, tuberculosis, maternal mortality, car accidents, suicides and murder do.
