Paralyzed Rats Get Their Life Back

After a miracle medical intervention, scientists made paralyzed rats run again. The scientist said that this procedure will work on human also, and would give them their normal functions back.

Rats, whose spinal cords had been severed walked again after scientist sent electrical stimulation to the spinal cord. With drugs and some physical therapy the rats ran naturally for over 30 minutes without. stumbling. “This means that the spinal network is almost capable of cognitive processing,” explained Gregoire Courtine, a professor at Zurich University.

The same researchers invented whats called “neuro-prostheses”, arrays of electrodes that fit like a second skin between the vertebrae and the spinal cord,” Courtine explained.

I am sure that many paralyzed people will be happy to hear about this medical breakthrough, and the researchers said it might be available for human usage within just four years.
