In a baffling research report, scientists have found that television, mobile phones and internet are just as addictive as are drugs. The symptoms people show when kept away from the internet, television or their mobile phones strikingly resemble the withdrawal symptoms shown by drug addicts!

In the research, volunteers were made to stay away from Facebook, Twitter, emails and texts for one day. The results were shockingly similar to the kind of symptoms and smoker trying to quit shows.

This condition has been named the “Information Deprivation Disorder.”

A doctor involved in the study said, “We were not just seeing psychological symptoms, but also physical symptoms.”

This research has revealed the great impact that internet and mobile phones have on teenagers and young adults today.

Dr Gerodimos, of Bournemouth University, said: “The extent to which we are using some of this modern technology and new media is changing us.

Participants described feeling fidgety and kept reaching for their mobile phones even when they weren’t there.

“There were also some good effects as people developed coping mechanisms they went out for walks and visited friends rather than sitting in front of a computer.

“If we become a bit more aware how we are using this technology, it might help us to control the effect it has on us. Perhaps everyone should try going without it for a day every year.” he concluded.
