The first in the history of aviation, U.S aircraft maker Boeing manufactured the first plane that was powered by hydrogen battery. The plane flew for the first time in 2008. “For the first time in the history of aviation, Boeing has flown a manned airplane that was powered by a hydrogen battery,” Boeing chief technology officer John Tracy told a news conference at the firm’s research centre in the central Spanish town of Ocana. The new plane flew at speed of 100Km (62mile) per hour for about 20 minutes at an altitude of about 1,000 metres (3,300 feet) using only the hydrogen battery for power, Boeing said on Thursday.
This new invention is considered a historical technological success for Boeing and promised for a greener future. The company used a high tech combinations which reduced its weight and it consumes about 20 percent less fuel than other smaller plane already in the market.
