Over 50,000 customer have already ordered the new 200 FCX Clarity hydrogen powered car from Honda’s website only. The company has decided to release this new model beginning July of 2008. The cost of this car might not attract many people to buy it, it ranges between 120,000 – 140,000 U.S dollars per vehicle. But a Honda official said Don’t worry about the price, Honda is going to lease the car at a reasonable $600 per month over a three-year term.
The Fuel Cell:
Fuel cells produce electricity that can be used as a clean alternative to gasoline. The fuel cell stack in the FCX Clarity converts hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2) into electricity.
How Does it Work?
According to Honda USA “FCX Clarity is powered by an electric motor. The car you drove to work today is probably powered by an engine. The big difference is that the motor in the FCX Clarity gets its energy from electricity, instead of from gasoline like most cars today. So while the FCX Clarity has the power of an engine, it also offers the uniquely clean, quiet ride of a motor.”
