Plans to grow food on the moonScientist in the United Stats are planning on growing Brussels sprouts on the moon to see if the moon’s environment can really produce its own food in the future.

NASA in partnership with Paragon Space Development Corporation in Arizona set up a plan to land a mini greenhouse manufactured by Paragon on the moon which would be capable to growing flowers and hardy vegetables from the brassica family, such as sprouts and cabbages.

“Colonizing the Moon or Mars seems so far away, but it is important that we do this research now,” said Jane Poynter, the president of Paragon. Telegraph report

Paragon called the mini-greenhouse “Lunar Oasis” and its about 1.5 ft tall. The green house is designed to protect the plants while it grows.

The company has also announced that they are going to launch the green house in 2012  by Odyssey Moon Ltd.
