A new tiny small telescope implanted in patient’s eye to improve their vision dramatically. The new device was designed specifically for people who have sever damaged retinas or “macular degeneration“. The telescope magnifies images on the retina, extending them so they fall on healthy cells outside the damaged macula, said Allen W. Hill, chief executive of VisionCare Ophthalmic Technologies in Saratoga, Calif., the implant’s maker.

Magnifying images make patient unbalanced during walking or driving, so once the patients does the surgery he/she requires to practice before facing the new world.

Patients say “that’s fine we will practice, but we want to be able to see again”. This invention would allow people to see relatives that never recognized clearly before, or restore their physical activities such as hiking and biking etc..

According to the inventor, the tiny telescope doesn’t cure people from blindness, but it improves their vision in a way that makes them see better by eliminating blurry images. Not everyone is qualified for the outpatient procedure; maybe only 20 out of 100 candidates will be qualified for it. Also, the price range is not yet revealed, but we know that it will be available in the United States after the FDA approval by the end of this year 2009.

Many people cannot afford LASIK surgery or contact lenses, so they try to find other ways that might help them improve their eyesight naturally. Many eye problems in later life are due to a loss of tone in the eye muscles. These muscles become rigid, and loses its elasticity, which make it hard on the eyes to focus at different distances. These tips might not get your vision back the way it was before, but at least could improve, rest, and relax them naturally.

1. Eye Yoga:

This exercise would improve and rest your eyes from your daily reading or TV light exposure. The purpose of this exercise to message the muscles around your eyes, as I mentioned in the introduction the eye sight become weaker and weaker because the muscles around the eye become rigid and this loss of elasticity reduces the ability of the lens of the eye to focus at different distances. This type of exercise if very helpful and recommended for many people by Yoga instructors, before you go to bed do the exercise for at least 3-5 minutes. First close your eyes and relax for a while, then point or move your eyes to the far left and then move them clockwise few times. Then move them again counter clockwise for few times. Now, move your eyes up and take them down again few times. Last thing move your eyes diagonally for few times. Here are other exercises that might help you.

2. Oil Fish:

Beside all the benefits for Oil fish to our body, it its a great source for Omega 3 Fatty Acids, DHA and EPA, which have been shown to prevent eye degeneration. A study at the University of Sydney recently completed a five-year study of 2,900 people 49 and older, and found that people who ate at least one weekly serving of omega-3 fatty acid-rich fish such as salmon and mackerel, reduced their risk of developing AMD by 40 percent.

3. Quit Smoking:

Smoking could ruin your eyesight, according to surgeon Simon Kelly and his researcher team ” Smokers are up to four times more likely to go blind in old age”. So if you smoke you are not only in a risk of developing (AMD) greater, but also the risk of existing AMD progressing faster is also higher if you smoke.

4.Carrot:

Carrot is very well known fruit that improve your eyesight. The reason is because carrot contain beta carotene, which is turned into vitamin A by the liver and Vitamin A is proven to maintain healthy vision. I wasn’t able to find an actually study to prove that carrot can improve your eyesight, but carrot is tasty fruit and wouldn’t harm your eyes or your health. So give it a try.

5. Leafy green:

Scientists have found that certain amounts of chlorophyll derivatives, found in leafy green vegetables, may enhance eye sensitivity to red light, which improves nighttime vision.

6. Don’t read in the dark and Avoid straining your eyes:

reading in the dark or sitting very close to the TV can cause eye strain.

7. Get enough sleep:

Yes, if you get enough sleep you would rest your eyes from daily the daily light exposure.

8. Keep your eyes clean and cool:

Wash your eyes gently every time you wash your face in order to keep them clean. Also, washing your eyes would cool them down especially at the summer time.

Last note: Don’t overdose anything, and always seek medical care when needed.
