prostate cancer caused by virusProstate cancer is the number two killer after lung cancer among men in Britain. Over 35,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year, and almost 10,000 of them have a very aggressive form and they die within 18 moths only from the initial diagnoses.

A new study revealed a very important finding that might save thousands of lives every year, scientists from Utah University in the U.S found that prostate cancer might be caused by a virus called xenotropic murine leukaemia virus (XMRV).

The scientists want to kill the cancer from its roots by developing a vaccine against the XMRV virus, but the big question becomes, would genetics and environment or even another virus cause breast and stomach tumors?

Many researches were skeptical about the new finding, “It will still be some time until it is understood whether the XMRV virus is a potential cause of prostate cancer in men.” Dr Helen Rippon, of the Prostate Cancer Charity.

A new nanostructured material that stops bleeding almost immediately was first developed by MIT under the supervision of Floyd Loop a current advisor to Arch Therapeutics and former cardiovascular surgeon.

The new substance is called Arch Therapeutic and can be poured over a bleeding site and will stop it at once instantly. Loop said this material would help surgeons stop heavy bleeding as quickly as possible during surgeries such as brain, heart, and prostate.

For example, he says that when large tumors are removed, “there’s a lot of diffuse bleeding around the site, and you have to spend a lot of time with sponges and cautery stopping it.”

This new breakthrough in surgical technology would reduce any complication might occur during and after the procedure, since itcan also prevent bleeding from the beginning. In additional it would reduce the risk of infection;  for instance, to prevent leakage after bowel-repair surgery. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” Loop says.

A researcher group at the institute of Food Research led by Professor Richard Mithen has provided for the first time the connection between Prostate Cancer and broccoli. They said eating one or more portions of broccoli every week can reduce the risk of protest cancer. As you probably know, protaste cancer is the most common non-skin skin cancer for males in western countries.

The study was done on two groups of men who at risk of developing prostate cancer, the first group added 400g of broccoli, and the second groups added 400g of pea to their normal diet every week for about 12 months. Tissue samples were taken from the patient’s prostate gland before the start of the trail and after 6 and 12 months, then these tissues genes were measured and examined using affymetrix microarray technology.
